Today’s class got a little intense. Talking about the Henrietta Lacks book, we had to remember that everything we said was just our opinion and we weren’t right. I think that the doctors were wrong for not asking permission for her cells. I don’t have a problem that it helped science and all that, just the common sense and respect of asking her first would’ve been nice.
We also talked about if we were to read a non-fiction story and being really into the book and then finding out that the story wasn’t true or that some of the big parts were made up. I wouldn’t be as shocked over something little like a person’s name or what they looked like. It would be a big deal for them to exaggerate something to make it bigger than what it was. Like in the story we read at the beginning of class, the guy said he was in jail for 3 months, and actually was in jail for a couple hours.

My Weekend

Overall I would say that I had a really good weekend, it started off by getting out of my class on Friday, and getting in the car to head home for the weekend. I was looking forward to this all week. The drive home wasn’t too bad got there in like 40 minutes. I then went to my hair appointment, which was at 1:30p. I got my hair done, met some of my old cheerleading friends at Panera to eat, and then headed to my high school where we would start to warm up for the football game. It was the homecoming game, and every homecoming game the alumni cheerleaders come back to cheer until half time. It started to rain so it wasn’t too much fun. I left early, went home, and fell asleep. Saturday morning my grandma, mom, and I got up and went to Sam’s club and got some snacks for my dorm room. We then went to the mall and I got my nails, and eyebrows done. Later that day we went to my aunt’s house to see my little cousin get all dressed up for homecoming! Sunday morning I got up and went to church with my family. After church we went out to eat at red lobster! It was so good. Then it was time for me to come back to Western because I had homework and an early class on Monday. I had a good time spending time with my family and friends over the weekend J

Today’s class was very interesting; I liked how we started out with writing 3 words or phrases from a movie or show. It showed me how everyone is into the media and key words from that movie or show are easy to recognize.
In class we also talked about the way society makes an ideal person and how a “privilege” changes from where you go until your put into a minority.
We also got on a topic about what is consent? I think that consent is a verbal yes from the person.
I thought it was also very true that you should be mindful of what you say when your around people you never know what they’ve been through or what might be offending to them.

Today is September 17th; I'm starting to make my first blog for English 1050. My day is going really good so far. I made it to my math class on time, ate some really good food in the dining hall, and almost finished all of my homework. I still have one more class later today but that shouldn’t be too hard. Before my class I’m going to put all my summer clothes away into my suit case, so that when I go home this weekend I can bring all of my fall and winter clothes back. Later after my class my roommate and I are going out to eat at Applebee’s for dinner. I already know that it’s going to be so good, much better than the dining food dinner :)
This weekend ill be going home, and on Friday i get to cheer at my high schools homecoming game. It's alumni cheer, on Thursday in class we came up with topics that reminded us about home. We then were supposed to make up a poem about that topics, my topic was cheerleading.

Introduction

Hey, my name is Jayla Warfield i am a freshman at Western Michigan University. I'm looking forward to my english class this year, it already seems like fun. I'm very outgoing and I like to have fun and laugh a lot. I live in Grand Rapids, MI so not too far away just about 45 mins. I plan on majoring in early childhood education. I really enjoy being around children and I like to teach things to others, so I just put those two things together :)
